Galata Monastery is a convent of nuns built at the end of XVI century by Petru Schiopu Voivode on the west part of the city. The church, surrounded by defence crenellated walls that has a high bell tower at the entrance, has the appearance of a fortress, often serving as a place of defense and sometimes as princely residence. It is an exemple of walachian influences on moldavian architecture. Galata Monastery ensemble is composed of: Church "Înălțarea Domnului" from 1582-1583; The royal house from 1726-1728; tower bell from 1584; defense walls from 1584
