Description: Thessaloniki. The funeral of worker Tasos Tousis; the first victim during the big strike events that took place in Thessaloniki, on 13.10.1980

Correlation: The episode depicted in the photograph – the funeral of Tasos Tousis – dated 13.10.1980, is from the series “ERT in Northern Greece”, as a result of the 45th Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) of 1980, going through the history of the capitulary and its establishment. For its theme, and the organization of the first exhibition of October 3rd, 1926, which was thanks to the founder Nikolas Germanos, speaks his daughter Maria Christidou-Germanou. Administrative members of the institution were also present, who spoke about the actions of the founding Exhibition’s committee, the initial organizations, and the contribution of previous presidents such as of Diomidis Varlamidis, An.Tsitsi and Ioannis Vellidis. A mentioning to the organizations of the pre-war period takes place, which was in the form of a demotic commerce-fest. What is also mentioned is the renewal and fortification of the Fair during the first post-war decades, therefore suggesting its economical and commercial character. The first stop is the first post-war exhibition of 1951 and the year of 1977 when the TIF is converted from Juridical Entity of Public Law to an Anonymous Organization. The documentary also studies the spaces of the exhibition and its expansion and improvement of facilities during the course of time, while providing information on the foreign governmental participations, national participators and number of visitors. A special mentioning is made on the exhibition of 1976, highlighting the interest of the European Economic Community, which appears with its own pavilion, during a period of Greek tension. Also there is the implementation of cultural events from 1960 and on, of the Cinema Festival and the Greek Music Festival. The story of evolution of the TIF is accompanied by rich cinematographic archives with scenes from the TIF spaces and inauguration snapshots until the 45th exhibition of 1980. Also included are interview fragments of 1976, featuring the then president of the Fair, Ioannis Vellidis.
